How does the Cleared2Drive System Work?
Cleared2Drive uses patented Impairment Detection Technology to instantly screen the operator for any type of impairment.  It does this by requiring the operator to perform 6 simple tasks, the first of which is to identify themselves via their fingerprint.  Next they will have to perform 5 more easy tasks such as: fasten the seat belt, turn on the right turn signal, step on the brake, turn on the lights, lock the doors.  As you can imagine, it would be easy to complete when sober, but difficult to execute when impaired especially within your normal amount of time.  For more details, see How Cleared2Drive prevents impaired driving.

How many people can drive the vehicle?
Depending upon the model chosen, our most comprehensive fingerprint sensor can store up to 60 fingerprints.  At a minimum, the fingerprint sensor can identify 3 drivers.

What do I get when I purchase a Cleared2Drive System?
You get everything you need to have the unit installed on your loved one’s vehicle, an instructional video that discusses how to set up drivers within the system and reviews all the features and benefits of your new system, and your warranty information.

How do I get the Cleared2Drive System installed?
The Cleared2Drive can be installed by most ASE certified mechanics with expertise in vehicle controls and electronics.   Everything they need to install the unit on the vehicle including a complete installation manual is included.  No special equipment is necessary.  Included within the installation kit is a special toll free tech support number they can call if they have any questions.

Does the Cleared2Drive System violate my vehicle manufacturer’s warrantees?
Lake many aftermarket accessories, the Cleared2Drive System typically does not violate traditional manufacturer warrantees.  However, be sure to check with your vehicle manufacturer for details specific to ignition interlock devices.

What maintenance does the Cleared2Drive System require?
Unlike a breathalyzer, the Cleared2Drive System requires no additional servicing, ongoing maintenance or re-calibrations.  We have designed the Cleared2Drive System to be the most care free and discreet ignition interlock device available.

What if I sell my car?
You could have the system professionally removed from your vehicle and installed on your new vehicle or you could offer the Cleared2Drive System as a biometric security device which adds value to your vehicle, and then purchase a new system for your new vehicle.  If you chose to have the unit removed from your old vehicle before selling it, just give us a call for an installation/un-install kit.  We will be happy to ship one to you.

How do I get set up as a driver?
After you have your Cleared2Drive System installed, initially you will be able to start the vehicle normally.  Once the vehicle is running, place your fingerprint on the fingerprint sensor three times and you are now installed to operate the system.  You can now install other drivers as well.  After this, the vehicle will NOT start unless a fingerprint is identified.

To install additional drivers, you first must be able to the start the vehicle.  Once you have the vehicle started, you need to exit the vehicle, have the new driver sit in the driver’s seat, and then place his or her finger on the fingerprint sensor three times just as you did.  Now He or she is installed.  Each time he or she needs/wants to start the vehicle, he or she will also need to perform all 6 functions..

How long does it take to start a vehicle with the Cleared2Drive System installed?
It typically takes only about 10 seconds to complete all 6 tasks from identifying yourself with your fingerprint to turning the key.   Keep in mind, that every person is different which makes our reactions times different, so the amount of time it takes each person to start the vehicle will differ.

What if I forget my Cleared2Drive screening sequence?
No problem.  We provide you with a “cheat sheet” which details your sequence.  If you chose, you can keep it in your vehicle as a reference, but we assure you, that after only a few days, you will no longer need it.

What happens if I fail the screening process the first time?
Not to worry, you get 3 chances.  However, if you are unable to start the vehicle within those 3 attempts, you will be locked out for 2 hours.  That doesn’t mean that someone else can’t start and drive the vehicle. Anyone who is already installed in the Cleared2Drive system can now start provided he or she can pass the screening process.  REMEMBER:  Only the person unable to pass the process is locked out.

How is the Cleared2Drive System different from a breathalyzer?
A breathalyzer measures the blood alcohol levels of the driver, sometimes with questionable results.  Cleared2Drive’s patented Impairment Detection Technology™ identifies sometimes very subtle, adverse changes in a person’s motor, cognitive and memory skills and protects her from starting her vehicle.  It is a much more comprehensive approach to detect all types of impairment – not just impairment caused by alcohol.

How can the Cleared2Drive System tell if I’m impaired?
Even a small amount of alcohol or ingestion of prescription or illegal or over-the-counter drugs can and will cause changes to your motor and cognitive skills, as well as vision and judgment.  The average sober person has full control over all these areas, while someone “under the influence” will show a detectable lack of control.

How much does it cost and is the Cleared2Drive System worth the expense?
Cleared2Drive’s Impairment Detection Technology™ was designed to keep impaired individuals from being able to start his vehicle.  However, we believe that what you are really looking for is peace of mind for yourself and safety for your loved one.  We know and understand how much peace of mind is worth to those of you worried that their loved one is going to harm him or herself or others by driving impaired.  We also know how important freedom is to your loved one.  Freedom to be able to come and go without you worrying that he is going to drive under the influence thereby harming herself or others.

So, to answer your question, it will depend upon which model you chose (for full details go to Cleared2Drive Models) and on how much you value your peace of mind, and security for your loved one.

I sometimes have to travel to dangerous parts of town.  What if I need to start my vehicle to get away quickly?
The Cleared2Drive mEg model solves that problem.  Attached to the fingerprint sensor is a button.  When pushed, it will be allow the vehicle to be started without any additional functions being performed.  However, be aware there are consequences to using that button.

PLEASE NOTE:  By pushing Cleared2Drive’s emergency by-pass button, you can start the vehicle without perform any additional functions, but you will also be activating the emergency alert system which means that the vehicle’s horn will begin honking, and the bright lights will begin flashing drawing attention to the vehicle.  They will continue to honk and flash until the vehicle is turned off.

How easy is it to bypass or circumvent the system?
Even though we have designed the Cleared2Drive System to be easy to use and operate, we have also made it extremely difficult to by-pass or circumvent. It would take a certified mechanic supplied with detailed instructions approximately 4-5 hours to un-install.  In order to by-pass or circumvent, all 12 wires connecting the Cleared2Drive System to the vehicle must be retraced and re-connected in order to by-pass.  Can it be done?  Sure.  Will it be quick?  No.  Will it be easy?  No.

What if they get frustrated and just rip the unit out or cut the wires?
Ripping the unit out or randomly cutting wires will cause severe damage to the vehicle.  Even by cutting one wire connecting the Cleared2Drive System to the vehicle, will cause the vehicle not to start.

Why can’t my loved just give his “cheat sheet” to someone else and let them start the vehicle for him?
He could, or should we say, “he could try.”  Just because someone else has been given the sequence, doesn’t mean they are going to be able to start the vehicle.  The Cleared2Drive System will still require a fingerprint which means that your loved one and his accomplice are going to have to be able to complete the sequence within 1/1000th of a second of each other.  Highly unlikely!  And remember, the first driver can’t install another driver to operate under his own time unless he first is able to start the vehicle.

Why can’t I just go slow on purpose so when I am impaired my time will match?
Cleared2Drive’s algorithms are much too sophisticated to be deceived that easily!  The Cleared2Drive System measures each individual’s reaction time to within 1/1000th of a second and builds an algorithm around that data.  It is not like a game show where the person closest to the price without going over wins.  The Cleared2Drive’s algorithms are so complex that they can detect even the slightest variation from the norm.

Can the lock-out time be lengthened or shortened?
Yes and no.  The lock out time cannot be shorter than 2 hours, but can be extended up to 24 hours.  Contact Cleared2Drive and we can send you a CD that will walk you through the steps necessary to extend the length the time of the lock-out.
